After decades of failures and false starts, a large study shows that a prostate cancer vaccine helps patients live longer, scientists announced Tuesday.
The vaccine's manufacturer, Seattle-based Dendreon Corp., will reveal complete details about their study's results at a medical conference in two weeks. But if those results are as strong as Dendreon promises, the therapy, Provenge, would be the first treatment vaccine to really help cancer patients, says Louis Weiner, director of Georgetown's Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, who wasn't involved in the study.Read more
